Photography and Videography Rates: What You Need to Know

Photography and videography rates are one of the first things businesses look at when planning a shoot, but the real question is what those visuals will deliver for your brand. The cost isn’t just about hours on-site - it’s about creating assets that drive engagement, communicate professionalism, and help you stand out in your market.

Strong photography and video have the power to elevate your brand’s image instantly. They make your products and services more desirable, improve trust, and capture the attention of your audience in a way that text alone never could.

Whether you’re commissioning high-quality commercial photography, fast-turnaround corporate video, or both, understanding how rates are calculated will help you make an informed decision and see the true value behind the investment.

Why Photography and Videography Rates Vary

There’s no fixed price list that works for every project because no two shoots are the same. Your needs, the scale of your project, and your creative goals will all play a role in shaping the final cost. Factors include:

  • Scope of the project – number of locations, subjects, or scenes

  • Time required – both for shooting and editing

  • Specialist equipment – such as my Mavic 3 Pro Cinema drone with multiple focal lengths and a Hasselblad camera for exceptional image quality

  • Travel – shoots outside Glasgow or Edinburgh may require extra time and cost

  • Deliverables – number of images, video length, editing style, and revision rounds

You could choose a cheaper provider, but for businesses, low-quality visuals can harm your brand perception, reduce engagement, and even affect revenue.

My Approach to Commercial Photography and Video

I keep my process straightforward, but I adapt it to suit your goals. Every project starts with a consultation to understand your requirements. From there, we decide on coverage length, location, and the best mix of photography and video.

For basic video coverage, say four hours on location, I typically spend another four hours editing, plus travel. That results in a polished one to two-minute video with music licensing, colour grading, and one revision included. If you’d like still images captured at the same time, I’ll add a half day to cover the photography element without compromising quality.

I work solo on all my shoots. This keeps my service personal, focused, and efficient, ensuring I’m across every detail from capture to delivery. My shooting style is often described as run and gun, meaning I can move quickly to capture moments as they happen, while still producing high-quality, well-composed shots.

When there’s time for it, I can bring in additional lighting for a more polished setup - but my Sony FX3 allows me to work beautifully in natural or low-light conditions if the schedule is tight.

Photography and Videography Rates – My Pricing

Commercial photographer diary

Below is a transparent breakdown of my typical commercial rates. Prices include professional equipment, insurance, and post-production.

Service Type Half Day (Up to 4 Hours) Full Day (Up to 8–10 Hours)
Commercial Photography £350 £600
Commercial Videography £550 £900
Combined Photography & Videography £750 £1,250

All combined packages are designed to deliver a cohesive set of visuals that work together across your website, social media, and marketing materials. Changes from the norm or extras will include variations, use these as rough guideline and doesn’t include the edit time - per day of shooting, its 1 day editing.

The Value of Professional Visuals

Clients often ask why professional photography and video are worth the investment. The answer is simple: it elevates your brand in ways your audience notices immediately. Premium visuals communicate attention to detail, quality, and trustworthiness - and they’re a direct reflection of how your business operates.

When you invest in high-quality content, you’re not just filling a space on a web page. You’re creating assets that will work for you across advertising campaigns, product launches, and brand storytelling for months or even years.

This is especially important for commercial projects, but it also applies to corporate, branding, and event photography. Strong imagery and video make people stop scrolling, start engaging, and remember your brand for all the right reasons.

Drone and Aerial Content

With my Mavic 3 Pro Cinema drone, I can capture perspectives that aren’t possible from the ground. It’s fitted with Hasselblad cameras and multiple focal lengths, making it perfect for everything from large-scale architecture to sweeping landscape shots.

Aerial visuals can transform the feel of your marketing - especially for property marketing, construction updates, or brand films that need to stand out. If you want your audience to feel the scale and atmosphere of your project, drone footage delivers that impact instantly.

You can read more about the technical capabilities of this kind of equipment in the Sony Camera Systems Overview for a deeper understanding of why professional kit makes a difference.

Choosing Between Photography and Videography, Or Both

Most of my commercial clients choose both photography and video, and for good reason. While still images are perfect for websites, printed materials, and ongoing campaigns, video brings your message to life, showing movement, personality, and context.

It’s worth noting that combining the two in one shoot is often more cost-effective than booking them separately. The content also feels consistent because it’s created by the same person, on the same day, with the same creative direction.

For example, while I primarily work on commercial projects, I also shoot wedding photography - giving me a unique crossover of skills in storytelling, quick reactions, and capturing authentic moments under pressure.

When Quality Matters Most

Rolex Watch product photography

Every client I work with understands the importance of quality, but not all realise the difference it makes until they see the final results. Crisp, well-composed visuals instantly give your brand a premium feel - and in competitive industries, that can be the deciding factor for potential customers.

This is why I approach every shoot with the same attention to detail, whether it’s a corporate headshot session, a product launch film, or a large-scale commercial campaign. The aim is always the same: to make your brand look exceptional.
